Hosting and server logs

This site and its relay server run at Render Services, Inc., San Francisco, USA, on servers in Frankfurt, Germany. To deliver the pages, Render processes the technical connection data every browser sends (IP address, time, requested address, browser type) and may keep it in short-lived server logs. Render acts as our processor (Art. 28 GDPR). Render is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework (EU adequacy decision, Art. 45 GDPR); the data processing agreement also includes the EU standard contractual clauses. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, our legitimate interest in operating the site securely and reliably.

Visitor count

Our server counts page views per day by page, device type (car, phone or desktop), hour of the day and, on the home page, by browser language (such as "en") and the website you came from (domain only). It also counts how often a phone is paired, how often a drive or a sound preview is started with which engine and how often the Ko-fi link is clicked. It stores only these daily totals, for at most 400 days: no IP address, no cookies, no identifiers, nothing that could recognise you on a later visit. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, our legitimate interest in understanding how the site is used.

The car app and the phone

To make the sound follow your driving, your phone measures acceleration and speed with its motion sensor and GPS. Up to 50 times per second it sends speed, acceleration and an estimated engine load through our relay server to the car's browser. The car's browser may also read the GPS speed. Your position (coordinates) never leaves the device. The relay only forwards these values and does not store them. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR, as this is the service you are using.

Your browser asks for your permission before any sensor is used. You can withdraw it at any time in the browser settings; without it, pairing does not work. While two devices are connected, the server keeps the IP address in memory to stop abuse of pairing codes. It is never written to disk or to logs and is gone as soon as the connection ends. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, our legitimate interest in a secure service.

So that the phone stays paired, both devices keep a random pairing token in the browser's local storage. It contains nothing about you and is strictly necessary for the service you asked for (§ 25(2) no. 2 TDDDG). You can delete it at any time with the browser's site data.

Contact by e-mail

If you write to us, we process your e-mail address and your message to reply. The mailbox is hosted by Hetzner Online GmbH, Industriestr. 25, 91710 Gunzenhausen, Germany, as our processor. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, for questions about using the service Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR. We delete messages once the matter is settled, at the latest after twelve months, unless the law requires us to keep them.

Support via Ko-fi

The support link leads to Ko-fi, an external service. You only leave our site when you click it; from then on Ko-fi is responsible itself and its privacy policy applies. We embed nothing from Ko-fi. If you give something, we only receive what Ko-fi passes on to recipients (such as your name, e-mail address and message), never your card or bank details. We use it only to match the payment and, where appropriate, to say thanks, and keep it as long as tax law requires. Legal basis: Art. 6(1)(b) and (c) GDPR.

No other third parties

Fonts and all other files are served from our own server. No external services, scripts or trackers are loaded. There is no automated decision-making or profiling.

Your rights

You have the right of access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18) and data portability (Art. 20). You can withdraw any consent, for example for the sensors, at any time with effect for the future. Just write to hello@burblemode.com.

Right to object (Art. 21 GDPR): Where we process data based on our legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR), you can object at any time on grounds relating to your particular situation.

You may also lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. The one responsible for us is the Landesbeauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit Nordrhein-Westfalen, Postfach 20 04 44, 40102 Düsseldorf, Germany, www.ldi.nrw.de.
